Serbia's strong desire to form a united Slavic nation wasn't enough to see the dream fulfilled . Since a Serb was responsible for the death of the Archduke, Austria-Hungary and Germany wanted to invade. Although Belgrade, Serbia's capital, was invaded the Serbs managed to push back the invaders. However, the north side of the nation was surrounded. Serbia was in trouble and was aided by Russia, which proved they needed more help in war time.
